Hi all,
I've been wanting to learn to play the accordion for years now. I'm 18, a multi-instrumentalist (I play piano, banjo, guitar, ukulele, harmonica, percussion), and I have a good bit of knowledge on music theory - and how to teach myself to play an instrument. Unfortunately, 2 things have prevented me from playing accordion: money and not knowing how/where to begin. Accordions apparently tend to be pretty expensive, so cost has definitely been a limiting factor. Also, there's quite a lot I don't know about them, which has made me slightly apprehensive to pick one up.
I'd like to learn to play a chromatic button accordion (like the one shown here), but really I'm not too incredibly fixed on one particular type. It just strikes me as the one I'd most get along with. I'm pretty good at dedicating myself to learning instruments (considering I've taught myself many), and I don't know if I'd necessarily need (or want, rather) a teacher.
Basically,
- Where do I start?
- What's a good price point? (what's too much/little)
- Learning materials/resources?
Thanks,
-A
