My engineer is providing an HD 24 bit master wav file (from 24 bit 48000 premaster).
In order to release on my label, it is always 16 bit 44100 so the final needs to be converted before being submitted for distribution.
My question is the master has a ceiling of -0.40 db on the mastered 24 bit file, what would be the best way to convert this to 16 bit 44100 (using ableton). Is it safe to put a basic limiter on the master channel and convert/export to 16 bit/44100? Should I use ableton's dither or no dither option.
Lastly, because of the -0.40 ceiling on the master, is it safe to add .4 to 1 db on the limiter for exporting?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as it's a very simple thing, however I know there are multiple ways to do the same thing.
