I have no experience with EDM, but I'm more toned to Progressive and Uplifting trance. I have FL studio (which seems like a common software for making music), a pretty powerful PC, but no MIDI keyboard or... anything really. If it helps, I'm okay at guitar. I understand the usage of a metronome (for bpm), and I have little experience with music theory.
I kind of understand the "Intro, Breakdown, Build Up, Breakdown, Climax" thing. Only thing I'm confused about is... How long should they be? Most trance music are between 5-8 minutes long, and I'm pretty shit at figuring out when the "breakdown" or "chorus" is. One of my favorite songs are No Lie by Sergey Nevone. So I'm hoping to capture that feel. Here's the song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_Rv9mQ7Z0c
I'm also reading up on howtomakeelectronicmusic's guides and I'm slowly getting the grasp. His trance section isn't very... I guess descriptive? I dunno. Also, I have... practically all the free time in the world. So I can basically practice before composing an actual song.
