Hello /r/edmproduction, and happy Friday. The mod team has recently updated the reporting system to include more descriptive report reasons that should make reporting more effective and easier.
Here you can see what this looks like.
This post will serve as not only a meta announcement to inform the community of this change, but also as a rule refresher and suggestion box for the weekly threads.
We are keeping the current weekly threads, but as you may have noticed, the most recent Feedback Thread has been sticky'ed. Our hope is that by keeping the current weekly thread sticky'ed, more users will benefit from them and the increased visibility will discourage user posts that are out of place.
Furthermore, after the discussion in this post, all sample related questions (e.g. "Where can I get this kick?", "What sample pack should I buy?", etc.) will belong in the "How do I make this sound?" thread. Perhaps it should be renamed "Sound Design and Samples Thread"? (Thoughts?)
On to the suggestion box: we would like to not only sticky the feedback thread, but also the "How do I make this sound" thread. However, there are only two sticky slots available to us. As a community, we would like to ask what system you prefer. A suggestion has already been brought up: sticky the feedback thread for three days and then sticky the sound thread for three days, alternating thereafter. This would allow visibility for both threads without knocking the Sample Pack Competition out of its sticky slot.
We would like to see some discussion in the comments on alternative options, or perhaps input on the already proposed idea. After the discussion has matured, the mod team will discuss and we will implement the most popular and feasible system, editing this post as an update.
Finally, we would like to refresh the community on the rules. It's very important that our users actively report comments and threads that violate the rules or that are outside of the respective weekly thread. Our sub is very active and the mod team can't possibly see every single comment and thread to ensure it follows the established guidelines for acceptable posts. Furthermore, our sub has been added to Reddit's new "Popular" tab that I'm sure everyone is aware of by now, so we will likely see some extra traffic from users that are not subscribed here.
Please report threads and comments that violate the following rules:
-
Be respectful. No flame wars, disrespect based on music preference, condescension based on level of experience, or tactless posts stereotyping any group of people will be tolerated.
-
Stay relevant. Please submit only content and discussion that is relevant to music production.
-
No memes, images, or low-effort content. Keep it productive, intelligent, intelligible, and constructive.
-
No spam, marketing, or self-promotion. Spam & non-constructive promotion outside of the Marketplace Thread will be removed. We defer to reddit's rules for what constitutes spam.
-
No piracy or illegal content. Discussion of piracy is fine; advocating, asking for, or giving advice on how to pirate is not. Two day ban on first offense, permanent ban thereafter.
-
No "drama posts". This is not the place for posts about people stealing songs from other artists or producers using ghost writers, etc. This is a community for the technical aspects of production and for production discussion, not drama.
-
No "motivation posts". Low-effort "motivational" submissions will be removed, simply because they are not related to production. We do make exceptions to some threads that create insightful discussion.
-
No sub posts that belong in the Weekly Threads. If you need feedback, use the weekly feedback thread (find it in the topbar under "Weekly Threads"). If you want to create a specific sound or find a sample, we have a weekly thread for that too.
If you've made it this far, thank you for taking the time to read this important announcement. We encourage you to participate in the comments: user feedback is invaluable when making changes like this and we only seek to increase the quality of the sub as much as we can.
