I’m working through Fretboard Theory and ran into some confusion around keys versus root chords.
Would I be correct that the root chord is just the chord that comes first chronologically in the chord progression? So in a V, I, IV; the root chord would be the V and the key would be the I.
And if that’s true, it sounds like for soloing the guitar player could play either the I major scale or the V pentatonic scale. This blows my mind a bit since I always though pentatonic soloing also followed key, rather than root chords (which is a new term to me).
Thanks for any insight?
