Like the title says, I was offered a free Wurlitzer upright piano by a friend for my child to learn on. My friend has had this piano for many years- it is in good condition. It was always kept in their living room, kept very clean, no broken pieces, no rust, no damage. However, it hasn’t been tuned in atleast a decade.
My child has been learning on a Yamaha digital keyboard and is ready to graduate to an upright piano. My friend has offered their piano to us for free since their kids don’t play the instrument any more.
My child tried out the piano today. All keys make sound. However, many keys have a prolonged, lingering sound. Like a chorusey effect. To my musically untrained ear, it sounds like an issue that a good tuning can fix. But I’m not a piano player and I’m worried it might be something more serious.
I will need to hire professional movers (we live 5 miles away) and then pay for professional tuners to tune it.
Do you think I should accept this instrument? Are Wurlitzer upright pianos any good? Would this be a good learner piano for a 10 year old child?
I’m a piano novice so all advice is welcome. Thanks!
