I'm coming up with songs that do not totally suck, and I don't want to forget them. Right now what I do is record them, but I think it would be best if I wrote them down, but I'm finding it damned near impossible, and it's all because of the duration of the notes, I never know what they are!
Keep in mind, I have no trouble reading music and getting the rhythm and the note durations from there
But when I try to write down my songs I find myself writing things that make no sense. The bars for the right and left hand do not match, themes that repeat have different durations, I use dots and linkages excessively and that makes me think the song is not 4/4, or 3/4 or whatever
I just end up with an inconsistent mess, and while I can figure out what I was trying to write, other people wouldn't
I just don't know why this is so hard for me
Can any of you give me some tips or link me to some good tutorials? When I google "how to write music" or "how to know note durations" I get things that are either entry level or way to advanced for me
