Hello everybody!
I'm trying to pick an instrument but my music experience and understanding at the moment is basically none :). I just want to learn an instrument for the pleasure of learning something new. I don't want to join a band or anything like that. Basically a hobby. Also I don't want to play with voice.
I would prefer something that I can learn on my own. Besides the job and other passions of mine, I wouldn't have the time to go back and forth to classes. That being said I can surely sink 30 minutes or even a bit more every single day.
As a style... I think I would prefer to learn to play classical music. The type of music that makes you feel at peace, if that makes any sense. Now I know that it takes countless hours for that to happen, which brings me to my next question:
In 1-2 years of constant practice, how much can I improve in any of these:
Guitar
Flute
Keyboard
These are the instruments that I got my eyes on. What can you expect on average to be able to do in 1-2 years? Make some decent sounds? Be able to decently play an easy song? Maybe parts of a harder one? Again my experience is zero so I don't really know what my expectations should be(except not to be high 😂)
In my perspective:
Guitar is easy to get into.(my sister has a guitar so I could pick it right away). Maybe the easiest to learn. Has an ok sound but not necessarily what I'm looking for.
Flute is also easy to get into(not a big investment, can carry around anywhere). Don't know about the learning curve. But I love the sound of it.
Keyboard is probably my preferred choice in terms of sound and what can be done with it. But it would be harder with the space in house and also it's much more expensive than the alternatives I listed. Also can't carry around. (I would have some more questions about keyboard if there's any player here)
My goal is be to be able to somewhat decently play (even parts of) some songs I love and not sound like a dying walrus 😂. For example:
The beginning of Clair de Lune.
Sound of silence
Maybe some music you hear in church(I don't know I just find it very calming :) )
What would you recommend? What are the ups and downs? Any sort of information is appreciated. Thanks!
