...not to the point where intervals and the notes themselves are indiscernible and indistinguishable respectively, but just enough so it's slightly flat (maybe on just a string or two per key on keys where there's more than 1 string) to create that slightly-beating "chorusy" effect. That sound, particularly on older uprights and spinets, really evokes a sort of ethereal melancholic beauty to me. I even have perfect pitch, but this kind of sound doesn't bug me at all as long as the piano's in tune with itself.
