Hi! Long time lurker, first time poster. I am a self learner of piano, and I found Burgmüller's Arabesque as my new piece to learn ( I struggled with Grieg's Ved Gellert's Grave for a few weeks, but decided to quit it until I find a teacher). However, it is played at a very high tempo. Actually too high for me.
I can play some other easy pieces, too, but at half their actual speed or slower. Does this mean that I am still not mature enough to learn these pieces, although I can play them correctly? Should I go with pieces I can play and with whose tempo I can keep up? The only things I can play at a very high speed are two scales (>140). Thank you in advance for any opinions. It might be a silly question, but being a self learner is sometimes difficult.
