I practiced guitar for years, and only managed to learn a couple of songs. Scales and finger exercises were easy, but when I tried to listen to actual songs and reproduce what I heard, everything sounded like a jumbled mess in my brain.
I experienced a similar thing while singing in a choir. My rhythm was fine when doing rhythm exercises, and my ability to recognize notes/intervals was decent. But when I had to sing, alone or with other people, nothing seemed to fit together in my head and things quickly got out of sync.
I tend to overthink things a lot, so I assume that's at play. Has anyone experienced this kind of thing before, and if so, how were you able to work around it?
