Please tell me if this should be in a different reddit. I'm very, very unused to reddit or posting anywhere.
Backstory: I've always wanted to do music. When I was younger, I asked to learn the trumpet and was never allowed to. I joined choir and did musicals from 4th grade to 11th grade, and was in select choir at one point for two years. I never was taught how to read music and I still can't.
A year ago, I tried out cello and violin by renting and taking lessons. Due to health issues and depression, I stopped doing these after a month or so each. My instructor recently left the practice and now that we're in quarantine, I want to do something and to try to learn an instrument. I'm not sure what to pick up, how to get an instrument, or what's worthwhile for me.
- Piano - Overall rich sound, beautiful, have heard it's a decent starting instrument. Can be expensive, I live in an apartment.
- Violin or Viola - I love the richness of the viola, though I hear people say it's for people who can't handle violin... Violin is also lovely. My issue here is I have tendonitis in my left shoulder and I'm right-handed, which is part of why I stopped.
- Cello - Also a sound I love, though it's large and expensive. Wouldn't be as much of an issue with my shoulder problem.
- Any other recs...?
Recommendations for which instrument is best for beginners, best low cost starter instruments, and recommendations regarding where I can learn online until quarantine's done... Anything and everything, any kind of feedback, would be lovely. And, again, if this isn't the right place, please let me know!
If it counts, I live in the east coast USA in one of the harder hit areas.
