Hello all, the past couple months I've really been buckling down on transcribing and developing my ear. I feel like I have a decent routine down but there is always room for improvement so I was just seeing you y'all can see any holes here with this routine I've made.
If I'm not actively transcribing/learning a song by ear
I'll sing my intervals. Various apps help and I always have a piano up to check my work. But I'll work on intervals, I'll "fill in the chord" so I'll play the root and fifth, attempting to create and sing the third
I will "sing" chord progressions/sing the arpeggios. For example; if I'm doing a I-IV. I'll send the I, then the IV chord in second inversion (since you can go to the IV chord using the 5 of the I) that kind of thing.
Then I love to use Fundamental Ear Trainer. Lately I feel like I've really found the value in doing melodic dictation stuff. Just because I feel like that's the best way to train yourself to catch melodies on the first listen through (which of course is the ultimate goal)
Then I recently got this new app (chord prog) that will play musical examples of whatever concept their trying to get across and it's fun to learn these little 5 second melodies
But that's basically where I am out now with my musicianship so please if I'm missing something huge or if you can see improvement on any of this please let me know. We're all on this musical journey together
