Sorry this is kinda long but for context I just graduated college with a BA in music (not focused in anything specific, just a broader range of basic knowledge) and I'm considering taking higher education courses to possibly pursue a masters degree in music theory. While l've been around music casually for most of my life, I only started studying it seriously when I switched to the major in my junior year, so I only have 2 years of formal education (I was able to cut corners on recital and lesson credit due to being a covid student when I got my AA). My question is, is that enough to pursue higher education in the field? I was pretty good in my theory classes up until we covered the Romantic Period and 20th Century music. From then on the curriculum seemed rushed and I felt like I was never able to fully grasp the concepts. I feel inadequate in analyzing music, and I'm not confident in my work, but I so desperately want to learn more and to be able to study at a higher and formal level. Is this enough to be able to do well in a masters program, or will I likely struggle until I feel l have no choice but to drop out?
