I have some basic experience on the carillon (bell tower that's sort of like a piano or organ?) and have about a year before my audition for a carillon group where I'll finally have regular access. In the interim, though, I'm dedicated to improving as much as possible, especially since I didn't make the cut this year.
The problem is that because I didn't make the group, I have to travel about an hour by train to get to the next closest tower and practice console, and given that I'm a college student, I can only do this once a week on one of the weekend days, and that's pushing it. I can cut out about four hours there.
I know that this is truly not an ideal practice schedule, but I'm wondering how to maximize it? I'm attempting to learn all the repertoire I need before next year, so 8 1-2 page intermediate pieces. I'm also looking to improve my sight reading ability, because that was a notable weak spot for me. Practicing on piano really is not the same, especially because the hardest part for me is stitching the hands and foot pedals together.
Any ideas? I'm thinking I should probably work on ear training and transcription to improve my sight reading ability.
