Hey! I've recently posted a detailed video about this, but I thought I'd share some of my thoughts with you on the subreddit since it seemed most fitting.
I think this course is great for… let’s say intermediate beginners and up. People who didn’t just pick up music producing and said "let’s learn from the best". Don’t get me wrong – everyone could take something from this class. Even seasoned producers. It’s just different kinds of benefits.
In theory, you can expect to end up with two "release-ready" songs, but you shouldn’t. You should expect to get two solid ideas for you to develop even further after the class is over.
Charlie himself is very charismatic and seems genuinely enthusiastic throughout the class. However, he is not an educator, and it kinda shows… While he does his absolute best to inform you why he does stuff - there’s no “theory” behind it. You don't know WHY he does certain things. You might see him tweaking an effect or a melody note, then you think cool… now what do I do with my song?
That’s part of the reason I recommend this course for intermediate beginners and up, you have to do a lot of the thinking yourself, and that’s something that absolute beginners wouldn’t really be able to do - translate the music from their mind’s ear to actual music.
I was very skeptical before I started the class. I was like – well yeah, I know stuff! But I largely underestimated the value of another point of view. Now, it kind of feels like I got, not even just another set of tools, but a new toolbox to work with ALONG WITH MY CURRENT ONE!
I actually liked working with deadlines that were not set by me, and non-negotiable ones at that. It really forced me to do the work if I wanted any feedback on it since Monthly classes are based on peer interaction.
Do I recommend this class? Absolutely YES!I know I might've come across a bit too critical, but I wanted to present a fair truth while keeping in mind that I genuinely recommend this experience, which yes, is a bit of an investment. But it’s an investment in yourself. It doesn’t matter whether you’re really serious about music production, or just an amateur hobbyist. I will say that it's all up to you. YOU have to watch the videos, YOU have to come up with ideas, YOU motivate yourself and YOU are in charge of your time. But that's part of the fun! Commit to making something, and it’ll be great. If you'd like to know more, consider watching the video I made (https://youtu.be/bPu8AEvjLl8) where I talk in more detail about my experience with the platform, the many benefits of the class itself, and a creative block I ran into during the class.
