I play piano, and modes have always intrigued me as a concept. I know that modes are different organizations of tones and semitones, that Ionian and Aeolian are Major and Minor respectively. I know different modes have different feelings. I know that C Lydian is like G major but you start on a different note. I sort of can grasp the physical aspect like that but not on a theory level for piano. I want to understand what they do and how to get a modal feel. I'm sort of a beginner, and I am also taking out of my ass, so I'm probably wrong about some stuff.
