Usually it's on a piano or other keyboard, because that's the instrument I'm most familiar with.
The other evening, I realized that the technique would require one to play the melody with the right hand, harmony with the left, while maintaining the rhythm with both simultaneously. My perspective is that that's a lot going on at the same time, and I know how complex and complicated each of them is.
My question is - since I know that people are capable of learning to do this, how does the aspiring musician learn to do that? My husband says that the process is intuitive for many people, and has a lot to do with a positive feedback loop in which you come to associate the physical activity with the 'correct' sound.
Unfortunately, I don't seem to have an intuitive understanding of anything.
