Of the three major constituents of music (melody, rhythm and harmony), I would argue that rhythm is the most underappreciated and overlooked. A song’s identity is equally (and sometimes moreso!) formed by its rhythmic constituents as much as it is by its melodic and harmonic sisters, and rhythm pervades our culture to the point where a number of million-dollar industries are built around it. That’s why I’ve put together this guide; to help you develop the healthy appreciation that rhythm deserves, as well as jumping into the minutiae of rhythmic features and how you can best use them in your music.
