Hi so I’d like to ask some advice
I’ve not had any musical training. I can play basic guitar and keyboard, love singing, can’t read music. I did a bit of beginner ear training - solfege and ascending intervals - on apps a few years ago which definitely improved my singing and general listening skills.
For the past few years or so I’ve had an obsession with taking whatever song is stuck in my head (usually something I love) and figuring out how to play it on keys. Basically melodic dictation. I love the intuitiveness of the whole process it just brings me so much joy
I would like to improve this skill and just be able to recreate and play anything. But learning music is so broad I don’t know where to start. Obviously I can’t just play anything if I only know basic chords. And I don’t know how much theory I’d have to learn to truly be able to play anything and improvise. I was even thinking of getting a music teacher. I’m nearly 30 I should mention. And do I ask them for music theory or do I get a piano teacher (only got a keyboard)? Would love some guidance
Cheers
