So I was wondering if a sample played in stereo is say: -10db, then you would think the L channel and the R channel add up to -10db?
I took some high hats, panned them alternating left/red, and measured the amplitudes on the both the L and R channel, then the master. Then I also had a mono utility checker on the master to see what happened when it collapses to mono..
Well in the real world scenario i had a HH sample that was -48db in stereo, -48db when checked on the R channel, AND -48db when i checked in the L channel. Of course this lined up with the master as well. Then i put the master into mono, and it still said -48db..
Am I missing something here? If a -48db signal is coming out of the both channel, wouldn't it add up and be louder than a single channel?
Am I taking crazy pills?
