I find it is easier to build a interesting drumloop by starting of the track with the drums and later start adding the melodic instruments. Because then they blend very well together, because you write music with the drums in mind.
But if I start with the synths first I most time feel that the percussion I add feels misplaced, Usually what fits are only rides/hihats/snare/claps (the essentials). It feels most time like the other percussion feels forced (toms, percs, fx percs). I dont know what tips Im searching for, but I guess on this forum someone must have some tips on this. Maybe some tips on drumkits that always work or whatever.
Sure I could always start with drums, but I like to start with the melodic ideas before I continue to produce it full on.
