I guess the title is really two questions. It stems from something that I suddenly became aware of with respect to producing electronic music. The sound I seem to go for is stuck somewhere in the mid-2000s and early 2010s big room boom, but I feel like that phase is over and I want to try something new. Should I stick to creating what I enjoy hearing or should I try something new?
Also, how do artists learn new sounds and come up with new trends? I feel like I learn production by watching others produce and I get stuck into that pattern of production. It seems like it takes a long to perfect a particular type of genre or sound, and it seems hard to start learning something from scratch (e.g. future bass).
