Not sure if anyone here is teaching synthesis or how synths work, but we made this short-ish video to give an overview. Some of the things we cover:
- What a synth is
- Additive vs subtractive synthesis
- Common parameters, especially oscillators
- The science of how sound waves work
- The overtone series and an introduction to timbre
- The different types of waveforms you might encounter on your synth
Check it out, and let us know what you think! Especially educators — we're always trying to make videos for educators and classrooms, so would love your feedback.
