whenever i try to play sheet music it feels awful because it takes so long to figure out what pitch every note is. once i've figured it out i have to keep it memorized, which means i can't figure out more than a few measures at a time, and if i think about something else too hard i lose track and have to read it again.
i'm trying to remain open-minded about this shit because i've been wrong before when it comes to dismissing traditional practices as stupid, but
i keep thinking about finding a way to draw the notes as letters, like finding a musescore plugin or writing a basic scorewriting program or something. partially so i don't need to master speed reading first, partially because maybe it would work as speed reading practice.
would that work? i can't think of any reasons it wouldn't, but it feels vaguely reminiscent of bad practices and stupid shortcuts, and i feel like i would've seen it somewhere if it did since it's a really obvious idea. it doesn't seem too farfetched for it to not work at all.
