Good afternoon all,
I've been wanting to learn Duduk for a long time, and I had a chance to purchase one recently. Now, to clarify, it wasn't a really expensive, but I get this feeling the reed that came with it is really bad.
Apart from playing a Saxophone briefly, I have no experience with reed instruments, especially with a double reed instrument.
The issue I'm having is that... well after 2 minutes of trying to play the Duduk (after simply wetting it with my mouth), it simply becomes impossible to make a sound out of unless I REALLY force the reed together? But from every single Duduk guide I've read online, is that you are not supposed to tense your mouth, or push the reed down together at all.
So either I'm misunderstanding in how to play this (which I cannot find any extra information online about), or wondering if there's an issue with the reed.
I've attached some photos for reference, and I have ordered 2 proper reeds from Armenia now, however I'm gonna have to wait a month before they get here. And I'd really like to know if it's me and not the Reed before I do. The gap on this reed after 1/2 minutes of being "wettened" by my mouth is increadibly wide. And this is WITH the regulator that I move about to make the gap wider or narrower.
Does anyone know how to play the Duduk here, or know a good community for me to get some guidance?
Thank you
