I’ve been making noises with synths for close to two decades now but I’ve never learned to play keys and now I finally want to learn a little. I’ve got the technical aspect down, sound design, music production, etc but I can’t actually play keys and since most synths and MIDI controllers have them, I figure it’s about time to learn.
I know basic music theory, I know which key is C and I can play a C major chord. I played guitar years ago and played violin in school a lifetime ago.
I want to learn to play at a basic level. I want to be able to play basic chords. I have no interest in playing piano per se, and if I will play with two hands, it will probably be on two separate keyboards. Maybe it’s more like learning organ than piano? Any keyboards I play on will be 49 or 61 keys at most.
What do you recommend? Get piano lessons? Use an app? Get a lesson book? Something else?
EDIT: if it matters, I’m mostly interested in synthwave and related retro-inspired genres.
