I'm a piano player, picked it up when i was 7 or 8. I am also a bodybuilding enthusiast. So it has always been a thing for me to wonder "am i supposed to warm-up until my forearm feels pumped and sore?". My musician friend (who does not lift weight at all) say "you got to stop the bicep curls, it'll stiffen your fingers and wrist etc". So far, other than last of practice and aging, I don't particularly feel muscle building hampers dexterity (in fact, iphone use certainly does, the repetitive motion syndrom, my joints are swollen and THAT really hurts).
So, back to the title, when practicing scales and whatnot, I sometimes get sore and pumped very quickly, but I know this is due to starting too fast (same idea as pumping dumbells too fast in the warm-up set). However, some teacher say "don't practice until your arm is tired (but more about establish a routine everyday)". For me though, better improvement was felt after a night of "play until exhaustion", in the spirit of working out in the gym, you got to lift more, more weights etc. So I'm curious to hear other's experience.
