Guys, lately I've been listening more pop and less edm, and I have noticed that many of these songs don't have any bass at all.
For example, in "Call me maybe" I don't hear any bass, the kick isn't bassy either, and there isn't even a pad playing the root of the chords.

So my question is, is this normal in pop productions to make dance-ish songs without bass and if it sounds good why not or I am missing / not hearing something and the tracks actually have a sub and it is something a professional track of this kind must always have?
I mean, I think they have plenty of space in the mix for a bass, so it isn't for that reason, it appears to me that it's just pop producers, labels and mainstream's taste? Am I right?
I started as a bassist and now I produce edm, so this is kinda surprising to me that these tracks don't have that bass base going at all times and still sound great
