Me and my co-producer have pretty much finished producing and mixing 5 full songs.
Our pre-masters are pretty uniform volume-wise and are peaking between -7 to -6db so we're okay on that front.
However, should we shell out $500 for professional mastering? Or should we spend a day watching DIY Mastering YouTube tutorials and have a crack at it with our UAD Quad? Or should we send the pre-masters to labels and if they like it they will offer to master it for us?
Furthermore, should we contact an agent/manager and discuss our vision?
Also, anything we should do in terms of promotion? This would be our first real release with genuine quality material and we want it to be the best product possible when released. Cover art and an artist name logo is implied but anything else? We will definitely be applying for some music/artist grants as we are pretty much stretched thin on the financial front.
Any insight would be helpful and thank you to all who respond.
