Hey guys, I'm looking to really break down and explain the sub bass in this song! It absolutley slaps and I love the transition from the kick to the sub (any ideas besides sidechain compression, maybe the same sound)? Regardless, I have three things I want to attempt to figure out; the dimensions of the sub in the stereo field, the way the upper harmonics were designed (how does the kick not interfere), and the fx chain that the original sound went through to achieve the final product. Just by listening, I can tell that the sub hits and then spreads out through the stereo field. My guess is, if it were examined with a goniometer, the sub would hit as a line (mono) then the upper harmonics would force the line to rotate out into an oval or circle with a hollow middle (any idea how to achieve this eg. Dimensions expander/detune/multiple voices)? I can tell that the sub is low passed around 200 hz, maybe 150 hz to allow room for some upper harmonics (can't tell where it's low passed, if at all). To be honest I have no idea how this sub was processed to make it so full and gritty without drowning out anything else/crowding the mix or squashing the sound. Also, the slight pitch bend is awesome! If you guys could help me reason through this, or even take a look at it yourself, that would be fantastic! Let me know what your ideas are because this is something I'd really like to be able to fully understand!
For convenience sake, here is a link to the song!
