I didn't like the way existing note learning apps worked so I've created my own.
Many of these apps have a lesson based format where a new note is presented in each lesson. Each subsequent lesson will intermittently test you on previously learnt notes. The problem I have with this is that when you get a previously learnt note wrong you have to go back to the corrosponding lesson to consitently practice it again. I find this a little akward as I spend time thinking about what I should be learning instead of just thinking about the notes.
My approach was inspired by this touch typing website. Instead of individual lessons; you choose a clef and the app decides what notes to test you on. New notes are gradually presented along with previously learnt notes. Notes which you incorrectly guess are presented to you more frequently.
I've personally found this helpful while testing but I need to see if it can help anyone else. All feedback (good and bad) would be greatly appreciated.
Here is a link to the app in the google play store: Note Rote
The app allows you to learn most of the notes in each clef for free and I have included an in app purchase to add additional notes on higher and lower ledger lines. I've done this because I like the idea of developing the app further and having some sort of income from it will allow me to spend more time doing so.
