I recently posted a thread about compression on kick. Some said compression on kick is not so important because the samples nowadays are already musically great and compressed and EQed properly. However, I want to add my colors and make the sample just fit into the music. Not only a compresion on kick, EQ, reverb, delay, tape/tube, and on snare, overheads, bass, leads are what I want to add my style and signature sound.
So I don't just add a sample and get sidechained/automated. For Instance, this is my kick chain. I add lo kick, hi kick and EQ -> Compress on it. And then layer these. Insert a tape and console to add some taste. Put a musical EQ to customize the color and then add the Glue to blend the kicks. Finally insert a surgical EQ to trim the kick and the kick track is done. You may have your own kick chain, bass chain like this. Please share what FX chain do you use to add your own flavor of the sound.
