((DISCLAIMER!: I know that a good quality bassoon is very expensive, as in automobile pricing. I get that. I'm not looking for warnings on how terribly a cheap bassoon would play. I am just looking for something to help me learn the basics of bassoon and see if I like it before coughing up about 2 grand or so on a half-decent one.))
Hi all. I'm not sure if this is the best subreddit to post this in (And if it isn't, please comment a link to a better subreddit for this!) but never mind that. I was wondering if there was any such thing as a "cheap" bassoon (i.e. a couple hundred dollars at most) or a DIY/similar instrument I could get for that price range. I am an avid tenor sax, tenor recorder, and fife player and would really like to learn to play the bassoon. One problem though; I have checked all my local music stores, HS band director, and local bands for a bassoon I could borrow, rent, or the like. None of them had anything. I know that bassoons are double-reeded and are thus most likely different in playstyle to a single-reed instrument like a sax, but I am confident I could learn this quickly as I transitioned from recorder to sax a couple years ago with ease and can play both of them equally as well. Is there any such thing in existence? And if not, what is the minimum I would have to spend to get a bassoon? Are there any alternatives (i.e. PVC instrument, etc.) that I can get?
Thanks for any and all help. Also, a reminder: I am not looking for a quality instrument. I want something that is playable (even if barely) and sounds like a bassoon. I will provide any needed info so long as it is not personal.
Sorry for any of my bad English as I am Finnish.
