u/mesorich245 had created a post last night asking how to recreate the bass from the song in this teaser (?) video using only stock Ableton synths and effects, so no external plugins.
I don't ever make this style of music really, but I thought hey, I'll do ya one more.
I thought: "I'm going to create an Ableton project, recreate the bassline, include a whole rack for the recreated bass in Operator, with all 8 macro knobs fully utilized so that anyone can customize it to their liking (pre-loaded/saved macro knob settings = the default recreated bass), as well as notes written into the names of as many effects explaining why I did what I did, and what that particular decision and effect settings does to benefit the mixdown/sound design/etc. That way anyone with Ableton can download it and have a look around, and at least get a new bass patch to mess around with!
And so I did just that.
It's finally done, and I want everyone who wants it to be able to download the project and be able to save the bass rack, mess around with it and use it in your own track if you'd like, have a look around and compare your mixing techniques to mine (I did a few unusual things in this one, but I was trying to sculpt a sound based on a sound already made in a finished track, sooo....), and whatever else you guys want to do.
I uploaded the back-to-back comparison of 1. what it sounds like in the original track (with my drums over the top so that they're consistent) and 2. what it sounds like with my bass in place of it (I EQed the original sound out of it as best I could and put my bass in place of it): Comparison
I think it sounds pretty spot on, and honestly I'm impressed with Operator. I've never really used it for much, but it's got some really nifty and unique features within it.
You can download the Ableton project that I made Here
There are some pretty cool macros that I made for the bass rack, including a "Rave knob", a "house-ify" knob, a full decay control knob, a "vocalizer" knob, and more.
I hope you guys can find a use out of this project file in some way or another. Let me know what you guys think!!!
