Oldest track that I can think of that closest resembles a growl is Spor's remix of "Stompbox" by The Qemists from 2007. The "growls" from that remix definitely could also fall into the reese bass category but I definitely think they have that vowel-ie "growl" sound.
Thoughts? Would you not even consider that a growl? Do you remember a track from even earlier that had a "growl" or "growl" sounding reese?
