Recently* I bought a midi keyboard and after learning some "piano basics", I started using it for making melodies instead of drawing the MIDI notes by hand (mouse). Now I'm having a bit of trouble with the timing/sync of the song.
Whenever I record a melody, it never fits the full 4 bars and when I try to stretch/shorten the notes to make it fit, it just doesn't sound good. When switching the time signature from 4/4 to 3/4 I realized that all (or most) my melodies are in 3/4 (they fit perfectly in the 4 bars). But now the drums were out of sync because they're in 4/4, the classic kick-snare pattern.
How do you make 3/4 melody fit a 4/4 beat? I always worked in 128 BPM 4/4 sig because I'm used to the drum rhythm, but when in 4/4 my melodies always end up being only around 3 bars long (and I've tried editing them many different ways to make them 4 bars, but it always ruins it). And I'm so used to my keyboard that I can't really make melodies by drawing the notes manually anymore.
Any advice on how to fit 3 bar melodies into the classic 4 bar EDM structure?
*By recently I really mean about a year ago.
