After using Ableton for several years, I switched to FL studio earlier in the year after playing around with the trial. One of the most embarrassingly invaluable features I found myself repeatedly using was the scale highlighting within the piano roll. While I understand memorizing scales myself would be best case scenario, it vastly helped me finish more music and added a degree of ease and fun to producing for someone with a weak musical background.
Prior to FL, I had tried to emulate this by saving MIDI scales and folding in Ableton, which works to a degree. Over time I found this extremely burdensome, and found myself using FL more and more even though I greatly prefer the Ableton workflow. With the announcement of Ableton 10, I would love to go back to it, and saw some changes to the fold feature as well. Is anyone aware of a way to accomplish this more easily in Ableton 10, or found a smoother way to lock to scales than what I had been attempting before?
Appreciate any suggestions!
