Hello fellow producers! I'm aware that questions about compression are common around here, but I'm genuinely curious about this topic and have yet to find a good guideline.
I'm a well versed sound designer and I understand (for the most part) how compression works. However, I've only ever seen it's use in the mastering phase of a track for loudness / peak normalization etc.
Recently I was exposed to the idea that many professionals use compression on individual sounds during the mixing phase. What are the potential benefits of this? I've never tried this technique before so my interest is at peak.
Please reply with any tips / advice / knowledge you have on this! Thanks!
