I've searched for similar posts but didn't find any, so please excuse me if this has already been asked. I would like to take up a musical instrument again but am worried my short fingers might make a number of instruments impossible. For a while, as a teenager, I played violin and enjoyed it. In first position, I barely could make the notes required of the fourth finger; in fact, I think I had to lift my hand slightly in order to reach them. Maybe I am overly concerned, but I think the short span might be a hindrance if I take the instrument up again. Although I like the violin I haven't played in twenty years and at this point it seems that I'm in a position to pick it back up again as a beginner or begin learning an entirely new instrument. Thinking of the latter option, I was wondering if there are any instruments more suitable for short-fingered people.
