This is kind of a shower thought, but was thinking: drums in the majority of EDM still seem to be based around a traditional drum kit. You have kick and snare, hi hats, and tom fills. Even though we have power to make virtually any kind of percussive sound we can think of, most producers don't seem to be using it to do anything radically different. Drum kits as we know them have only been around since the start of the 20th century, whereas people have been dancing since forever, most of it to music that isn't really based around kits. Are there any producers out there that are moving beyond the usual drum kit type of arrangement when it comes to beats?
