So Ive been doing a lot of reading up on the manipulation of dynamic range to better understand compression and limiting. According to Bob Owsinski's mixing engineers handbook, there are a few different types of compressors, all with different coloration to the signal. Thus far, Ive only used FL Studios stock compressors and limiters, to some success. Now I'm learning about the different types of compressors and am curious to try them out on a mix to see how they affect the overall sound. As I have said, ive only used fruity compressor, fruity limiter and sometimes Maximus. They have been doing their job but I don't know if theyre good enough or if I'm missing out on anything. What other compressors do you guys use and why?
