Hey, my current laptop that I've been producing with for 7 years is rapidly failing and I'm scrambling to back everything up. I'll be looking at purchasing a new PC in the next 6 months.
The thing is, I need an absolute monster of a PC. I'm incredibly sick of the CPU issues that have hindered me for 7 years. For example, 1 instance of Serum playing 7 notes with 16 voices pretty much maxes out my CPU.
So I'm looking to drop $2500-$3000 on my next computer. I have a couple of questions.

Desktop vs. Laptop? Am I looking at a 10% increase in CPU speed/power (I don't know much about computers) or like 50%? I'd love to be able to produce in coffee shops and friends' places, but the power of the CPU will take preference.

What factors are determining the speed/power of my CPU? Is it the cores? The RAM? Anything else?

I'm not a gamer at all, so I don't need anything that has to do with gaming. Just a monster of a PC that can enable me to produce massive projects without much trouble. Any recommendations?
