I’ve been producing music on Fl Studio for about 2 years now and I’m feeling completely stuck with what genre to produce and actually finishing a track.
I listen to a lot of music but mainly EDM, such as Avicii, Martin Garrix, Zedd and Madeon to name a few of the main artists I listen to, and find myself jumping from one style to another after listening to a different artist. In doing so, what I produce sounds like the artist I’ve listened to, which isn’t what I want because I want my own sound, and I hardly finish any of my ideas and really struggle with the structure of a track without making it sound too repetitive.
I’ve played piano since I was 8 so I have a good sense of melody, key and what not, but the issue is mainly not finishing songs due to structure without being too repetitive.
This leads to the vicious cycle that I’ve been going through with music production for a while, but I will always come back to it because it’s what I love.
I read a lot of posts on this thread, which has helped massively since I found out about it, I also watch a lot of tutorials, play the piano to get ideas down, and try to produce as much as possible but I’m not having any luck in progressing.
Can anyone offer any advice on how to start progressing, finishing tracks and finding my own style and sound?
