So I plan to start buying parts within the month. I hope to build a machine with which I can have multiple instances of high-end VSTs and Max for Live devices per session without dropouts (the plugins I have in mind are chiefly the iZotope Creative Bundle, NI Komplete 11 and Zynaptiq Morph).
My current CPU is a five year-old i7 3770k, and she can cause drop outs above 50% CPU if I throw too much M4L or BreakTweaker at her. So I'm essentially pulled between 7th or 8th gen i7s (pricier but higher clocks up to 4.8 GHz) or a Ryzen (cheaper + moar cores, but not above 4 GHz). The thing is - how often would I need 4 GHz for these devices and sessions? Can I live with less + more cores? I've seen mixed messages here and elsewhere on the end results for both scenarios.
(And yes I've already been to r/buildapc. Didn't get much attention).
