( I work in FL and have been producing for 3 years) Hello, lately I have not been enjoying music production anymore I want to get better, like really good but the technical stuff prevents me from doing that. I love the genre Festival trap mostly Yellow claw and lookas's work. Deep 808's, cutting snares, aggresive melodies I love it. But like I said the technical stuff prevents me from doing that. I analyze their work to the best that I can. But I am not a pro and don’t know what I can do to keep improving, I have a lot of question but I can’t seem to find the answers on the internet thus seeking help on reddit seemed like a good. I am going to drop a lot of question so be prepared its going to be long. Some may be stupid.
Hard 808’s: Like I said Lookas is the producer I look up to. My first question is how does he make his 808’s? Of course with a synthesizer. But what is his recipe? His 808’s aren’t super unique or something but they are deep and thick. And here comes my second question that has been bugging me forever! What is his volume relation between his kick and 808. And not only that volume relation (Ugh don’t know the term) but how should my volume relations be in general how loud should my synths be, my pluck, snares, hats everything! Ughh this shit literally prevents me from sleep sigh… Next topic.
EQ We all know it and the unexperienced hate it. I don’t know what it is with this thing but ask a guy what this thing is meant for and you will get a million different answers and what it is meant for and how to use it. Someone please give me a clear guide on how to effectively use it. I know how to use it and what it kinda does but people on the internet act like this is black magic or something and always act mysterious and brag about there mix and all. Not very helpful. Mastering First of let me tell you what I think this is. You got your pre-mix it all sounds awesome and cool not in my case at this point but imagine it is. Mastering to me is keeping the pre-mix signal as close as possible at 0db for the whole track without destroying the pre-mix signal. And how do you go about this well I don’t know.
FX Stuff like white noise, chants, gun shots, sirens how to eq them? And what level should they be at? Sound design How do I learn this? I know what the buttons do. But I for example don’t know what the drop melody sound from Lookas – Samurai is made of?
Level, volume relations I know I have mentioned this a lot but to me it deserves its own topic because this questions annoys me to much. For the genre festival trap how should all the volume relations be? What are the rules for this?
Thank you for your time!
I will leave a link with my soundcloud so you can hear what my festival trap sounds like at the moment. Feedback and criticism is aprreciated!
