Ive been trying to pay attention to dubstep and riddim for common ways that the sub bass is used in them. Im having a hard time though, is it more common for someone to have the sub play like an 808 alongside the kick, playing for a whole measure at a time? I noticed this technique with yakz and umm. When I look around on the internet to get people's opinions iv only gotten answers to is having your sub bass separate or not from your bass.
The main question is, what do you find works best with subbass? Do you like a separate rhythm playing during break parts? Do you like it when a sub directly follows the midi for the bassline does it work better with treating it like an 808?
Give me your opinions with examples if you can think of any to go along with it :)
