Sometimes I hear the occasional, "Why is my bass not as hard as Skrillex" comment from the newer guys. Since I usually don't have time to look at their song's with my spectrum analyzer setup to see whats going on, the Spectrum is usually a dead giveaway.
If your having problems getting this down, look at one of your favorite songs that "Hit Hard" and look at where their peaks are, then look at one of your own songs that are similar. Maybe they are hitting hard 0dB but your overcompressed "banger" is hitting -3dB at its peak. This is usually a good time to go back to the drawing board for the mixdown and mastering.
