I've gotten to the point where I think I'm beginning to no longer trust my ears. I'll EQ here and there, maybe add a little compression only to find out if I remove those things whatever I'm working on actually sounds better without them. I've gotten to the point where I question every subtle change I make.
Edit: I should also mention that every tiny change I do actually sounds like a much bigger change. For example, I've gotten to the point where my mix sounds different when I adjust saturation settings only to realize the saturator has been muted the entire time.
