Hey guys, I'm new to sampling and could use your help/advice. My DAW is Logic (Alchemy/EXS24) and I have Kontakt 5 full.
1) I have a whole bunch of bass samples. They show up as a single note and they give me the root note. What's the standard practice to sampling a bass note so I can sample it across my keyboard? Obviously sampling it in a traditional way will make the higher notes shorter and the lower notes longer. I tried time stretching via Alchemy but notice some of the higher notes have fluttery noises and artifacts. Is this normal?
2) I also have a bunch of chord one shots. They are kind of like ambient swells. I'll have a particular sound that will give me an Am7, A major, Em7 and E major. Obviously if I want to write a song in C, I will have to pitch the E major or A major, and if I wanted to play a Dm, I would pitch the Em7 or Am7 etc. Again, I threw in these chords in Alchemy, but the granular mode and other modes just make the sample sound far off from the original, and again, fluttery noises and some artifacts. Am I missing something, or is sampling really just that restrictive? What's the common practice here?
Thanks in advance for any advice/time taken to answer my questions!
